“The holiday season of 2020 was a difficult one for so many of our students. It is impossible to look a child in the eye and promise a wonderful Christmas morning with lots of gifts for them under the tree. It is, however, possible to help them understand the gift of giving. At RHS we take a different approach to holiday help. The second annual Gift Garage was once again hosted by CIS and the RHS Student Counsel. Students were given the opportunity to purchase donated holiday goodies before school and during lunch at a school holiday shop we call the “Gift Garage”. All items in the store were sold for twenty-five cents and ranged from gently used gifts, handmade crafts, and this year, we even sold a twenty-five cent television. Students that took advantage of this opportunity were able to buy a family full of presents for less than three dollars. We all love to see the appreciative smiles of Christmas morning, but I can believe our students were able to show their smiles of pride. They were able to share a gift under the tree and they were able to receive the appreciative smiles of their family members. Hopefully they will always remember, the best gift is the gift that is given.”
