“Prior to becoming a CIS Site Coordinator, my background was in the care and education of very young children – preschool through kindergarten. That was my wheelhouse. In the beginning, I naturally felt drawn to the younger students on my caseload.
I found myself feeling a bit apprehensive about working with older children. Enter my third-grade girls’ group. This is a diverse group of girls who have more than their share of ups and downs, at school and at home. Their openness and care for each other is truly inspiring.
I meet with them during lunch, and they are never ready to leave. Together, we came up with a plan to form a book club. A time outside of lunch where we can read and discuss a book as a group. I am as excited about the prospect as they are!
While I still enjoy working with the younger grades, my time spent with this group of girls has shown me how rewarding it is to work with older children as well.”
