“After receiving my 10 Thanksgiving boxes from LifeSpring Church, I set out to get them to my Westview families. All 10 were accounted for, however, one family was hard to get a hold of and I didn’t feel comfortable dropping it at their door without knowing someone was home to receive it. After a few days of calling and texting, the mom messaged me and said they were actually staying in Cincinnati with her mother for a bit (this was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving). I decided to hang on to the box for another day, in the hopes that someone would come to mind and I could drop it off. No one did, and it sat in my trunk. I figured it could come in handy, even after Thanksgiving, seeing as how there was nothing in there that could go bad between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I didn’t have to wait long. Thursday morning, Thanksgiving day, a mom called me to vent about current issues they were having in their family with an illness, a quarantined child, an irresponsible sister, and an unemployed husband. No one issue was big in itself, but add them all together and you’ve got quite a lot of stress. She mentioned they weren’t having a Thanksgiving dinner, and that they really only had about $50 to get them through the next week and a half. I listened to her as she vented (she really wasn’t asking for help, she just needed an ear), and I asked her if she’d be home in about 30 minutes. She said yes, so I jumped in the car and drove to her house at 8:30 on Thanksgiving morning to bless her family with the Thanksgiving box that was going to go unused in my trunk. They appreciated it greatly. She said it brought her to tears. I told her I’m always happy to help, and just because things seem bleak now, that doesn’t mean they always will.”
